Contact Cleaner

After using your tattoo machine the contacts need to be cleaned. This felt pen accomplishes contact cleaning in a professional manner and is compact for travel. If necessary, the felt tip can be pressed into the contact screw to release contact liquid. When finished using your machine, press the armature bar down to expose the spring contact tip and the tip of the contact screw. Brush the felt tip into the end of the spring to remove debris and fouling. Repeat process on the contact screw tip, where it meets with the spring tip. These areas will appear oily after applying contact cleaner. Wait a couple of minutes and wipe off excess with a Bounty paper towel. Wipe away cleaner to remove fouling and debris from contact areas. In addition to having a better running machine, If you use the contact cleaner after every machine use, you will prolong the life of your springs and contact screws.

I try to refrain from using micro files to remove stubborn fouling, this is a last resort, because they tend to remove too much material from the contact areas. Instead use a burnishing file, which has very light abrasion or use emery cloth. You can find a nice pen style burnishing file under San Martin Tattoo tools. Your goal should be to prolong the tuning and the hardware of your machine.
